Cho Yong-pil, one of the most popular and influential Korean singers of all time, made his long-awaited comeback after almost a decade. Cho’s return is bolstered by unexpected support from people in their 20s.

The 63-year-old singing legend released his new single “Bounce” on Tuesday. The single topped Korea’s biggest online music charts including Bugs Music and Naver Music just moments after it was released.

While Cho’s comeback was widely anticipated to have an impact, the overwhelming support from 20-somethings came as a surprise for most people as Cho enjoyed his heyday in the ’70s and ’80s. According to Mnet.com, more than half of those who download his single were in their 20s.

Cho’s new song contains heart-thumping, upbeat, rhythmical guitar sounds and lyrics that are trendy enough to touch young listeners’ hearts.

The veteran singer took a 180-degree turn through his latest appearance by absorbing modern rock and British pop to appeal to young generations not familiar with his popularity.

He will put out the full version of his 19th album, “Hello,” and hold his first-ever showcase at Seoul Olympic Stadium on April 23. Many young singers will perform at the scene to celebrate his return.
