Daimler’s chief executive Dieter Zetsche will make his first visit to Korea on Wednesday to celebrate the crucial debut of the revamped Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
The sixth-generation S-Class, the first full-change in eight years, is an ultra-luxury sedan crammed with technology and features and the ultimate expression of the German premium brand.
With its large, three-dimensional radiator grille, long bonnet and gently sloping tail end, its overall styling remains true to the S-Class’ premium legacy.
While showing off a sporty coupe-like side with its dynamic roofline, the interior design embodies a classic saloon, as superior as it is ultra-modern.
Mercedes-Benz has put considerable resources into high-end, world-leading technology, hinting at the future of automotive mobility.
Thanks to numerous new assistance systems and significantly enhanced functions, the new S-Class fuses comfort and safety under the slogan “Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive.”
The Pre-Safe Brake prevents collisions with autonomous braking intervention at speeds of up to 50 kilometers per hour, while its anticipatory occupant protection system can be upgraded to include safety measures against rear-impact collisions.
The BAS Plus Brake Assist system with Cross-Traffic Assist identifies traffic crossing the vehicle’s path as well as pedestrians, and accordingly boosts the driver’s braking performance.
With Magic Body Control, the new S-Class is also the first vehicle capable of identifying bumps in the road in advance and adjusting the suspension to the situation.
Compared with its predecessor, the sedan consumes up to 20 percent less fuel. Its weight, across all models, has been reduced thanks to lightweight design.
The new S-Class is also the first vehicle in the world to rely solely on LED technology.
In Korea, six model lineups are available, including the New S 500 Long Edition 1, a special edition celebrating the Seoul debut with only 100 vehicles being produced.
The prices range from 129.9 million won ($122,400) for the New S 350 BlueTEC to 213 million won for the most lavish New S 63 AMG 4MATIC Long.
