The Korea Herald, the largest English-language daily in South Korea, will hold a special conference on President Park Geun-hye’s key policies that will not only affect Korean businesses but also foreign companies operating here.

Slated for April 18, 2013, the event titled “Hear from the New Korean Government: Policies and Reforms over the Next Five Years” will offer a rare chance for top government officials to explain policies.

The Korea Herald has invited several senior ministerial-level speakers, who will outline the Park administration’s new policies and engage in a discussion with members of the foreign business community in Korea.

To brief the foreign business community, Vice Minister of Strategy and Finance Choo Kyung-ho will speak at the conference. Choo will offer an overview of the broad macroeconomic operation plan.

President Park is keen to create a sustainable growth-oriented economy by ensuring shared growth between big conglomerates and small businesses. Under the initiative, she is pushing for a wide range of tax reforms to generate new financial resources to fund welfare programs, while promoting science and technology and its convergence with the ICT sector. Vice Minister Choo will also provide an economic growth outlook for this year.

New job creation, especially for young people, is at the heart of President Park’s new economic policies. And the foreign business community can play a crucial role in helping generate more jobs here.

Minister of Employment and Labor Phang Ha-nam will attend the conference as one of the key speakers, and he will shed fresh light on the labor management policies of the new government. Minister Phang is also expected to outline President Park’s policies on labor market stability.

As for social welfare policies, President Park recently stressed what is called “productive welfare,” which means providing skill-gaining training so that recipients can work and earn a living. Vice Minister of Health and Welfare Lee Young-chan will explain how foreign companies can help in this important policy implementation.

Jeong Chan-woo, vice chairman of the Financial Services Commission, will offer insight into President Park’s financial sector reform plans aimed at strengthening the Korean financial sector.
