Toyota Motor Korea Co., the local unit of Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corp., will recall over 11,000 vehicles sold in South Korea for problems with the air-conditioning system that may cause the airbag and steering wheel to malfunction, the Transportation Ministry said Monday.

According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, water produced by the radiator in the air-conditioning system may flow into the vehicle’s airbag system, causing both the airbag and the steering wheel to fail and possibly leading to an accident.

The recall affects 10,961 units of the Camry passenger cars produced between Oct. 20, 2011 and May 16, 2013, along with 546 units of the Venza compact utility vehicles produced between Aug. 14, 2012 and March 28, 2013.

Free repair services will be provided from Thursday at any Toyota Motor Korea service center in the country, the ministry said in a press release.

Meanwhile, the ministry said it has also ordered Jaguar-Land Rover Korea, the local importer of Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles, to recall 888 units of the Jaguar XF 2.2d vehicles for a possible leak from the car’s fuel line that may cause a fire.

The company is also recalling 213 units of the Jaguar XF 2.0 and 88 units of the XJ 2.0 model for a loose connecting hose between the car’s intercooler and turbo charger that may cause the engine to be turned off.

The recall affects the three types of Jaguar vehicles produced between August 2011 and July 2013.

Also, Volvo Car Korea, the local importer of Volvos, has been told to recall 493 cars produced between May 2010 and May 2011 for problems with the softwares and engine belt.

Free repair services for Jaguar car owners will be provided from Monday at any service center of Jaguar-Land Rover Korea, with those for Volvo car owners set to begin Tuesday. (Yonhap News)
