Which new boy band in the making has what it takes to become the next Big Bang?
YG Entertainment founder and CEO Yang Hyun-suk has decided to leave that decision up to the fans.
Yang announced over the weekend that he would be launching a new reality TV show, “WIN,” to determine which one of his current boy bands in training will make their debut. “WIN,” which stands for “Who Is Next?” will feature two rival groups waiting to debut in a winner-takes-all talent competition.
The boy band that receives the most votes from the viewers during the show will take the crown and debut under the pre-selected name “Winner” once the show concludes.
“The group that loses may be broken up or may end up having some members replaced. Nothing is certain,” Yang said.
“This survival program may seem cold and impersonal, but this is kind of a situation that no professional artist in this world can avoid,” he explained. “This program will portray reality in its barest form.”
The reality program will consist of groups “A” and “B” going head-to-head. Two of the members of group “A” are Lee Seung-hoon, former contestant of season one of the survival audition program “K-Pop Star,” and Kang Seung-yoon, a former contestant from “Superstar K.”
YG has said that group “B” is a younger group with six members, including 17-year-old rapper and band leader B.I.
“WIN” will consist of 10 weekly shows, with the opening episode premiering in the second week of July.
