The military’s Cyber Command signed a memorandum of understanding with the government-sponsored cyber security firm Korea Internet Security Agency on Friday, pledging to combine forces against future cyber attacks.

A communication hotline will be established to quickly counter massive online attacks while the two institutions will also share intelligence concerning cyber security.

“Our command’s MOU with KISA will undoubtedly enhance our nation’s cyber security capabilities,” said Brig. Gen. Ok Do-gyung, commander of Cyber Command.

The deal follows a government announcement Thursday that it would train 5,000 cyber security experts and propel the cyber security industry beyond the 10 trillion won ($8.76 billion) mark by 2017.

On June 25, the 63rd anniversary of the beginning of the Korean War, unidentified hackers successfully infiltrated at least 24 websites including the Cheong Wa Dae homepage. Six days later on July 1, 43 additional websites were also invaded. As of Friday, 90 percent of those websites have recovered from the attacks, a government official said.
