SK C&C, the nation’s leading IT service provider, on Tuesday said its Daedeok Data Center received an A+, the second-highest mark for being an energy-efficient and eco-friendly facility for housing computer systems and related components.

The recognition was granted by the Korea Technology Service Industry Association, which held the first Green Data Center ceremony at Palace Hotel.

“It’s been 12 years since we built this facility, and now our Daedeok Data Cater has become a role model for other data centers in their efforts to go green,” said Yang You-seok, head of SK C&C’s infra-operation department. “We hope to continue working toward becoming the nation’s top-notch eco-friendly data center that’s both energy-efficient and customer-friendly.”

Up to 100 of the industry’s high-profile individuals including those from the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future and the association attended the ceremony, the company said.

SK C&C’s data center located in Daedeok in Daejeon, the nation’s nerve center for nurturing science and biotechnology, was noted for its voluntary efforts to cut energy consumption.

Most of the equipment were built by SK C&C and received patents for their originality, the company said.

Officials said through these endeavors, the firm was able to cut annual CO2 emission by 1,147 tons, which translates into 300 million won ($266,000).
