SK Telecom said Wednesday that it would actively seek to help reduce energy consumption at local businesses by providing a Cloud Factory Energy Management System to production companies Sempio and Cosmo Chemical Co.

Cloud FEMS is a newly introduced energy solution for businesses with high-energy consumption. After being developed in 2011 for the first time in Korea, this energy solution is expected to be a way of dealing with the current energy and high oil price issues, according to company officials.

“Amid rising costs of energy, we look forward to providing our solution to many companies in Korea as well as penetrating overseas markets with our accumulated technology and experience,” said Lee Myung-keun, president of SK Broadband's corporate business unit.

Industry watchers widely said SK Telecom's cloud solution is a customized service tailored for each company. For example, SK has put much effort into providing boiler operation-related solutions after taking into consideration the soy sauce maker Sempio's boiler-centered production process. SK is expected to improve Sempio's energy efficiency by about 20 percent.

Cosmo Chemical Co. is a local cobalt sulfate manufacturer.

By adopting this energy management system, these two companies are expected to reduce their energy consumption by more than 10 percent annually as well as improve quality and productivity.
