LG Electronics Inc. on Thursday expressed confidence in the photo-taking features of its new flagship V30 smartphone, and said it is committed to making the best camera modules for smartphones.

LG Innotek Co., an electronics parts maker under LG, told reporters touring its factory that nearly two-thirds of the production procedures of its camera modules were allocated to testing performance. It stressed that such steps require the greatest attention to detail as the complexity of the cameras in the latest phones like the V30 has gone up compared to the past.

One of the tests that the company has included is shaking devices up to 10 times per second to test the performance of the optical image stabilization feature to see if it can take clear photos under changing conditions and environments. LG also conducts various tests of durability, which involves dropping the camera module or giving it an electric shock.
 

The modules are also tested to deal with the harshest climates around the globe, enduring temperatures from minus 40 degrees to 85 degrees Celsius.

The South Korean tech giant has been promoting camera of the LG V30 even before the official showcase event held in August, setting the feature as the key selling-point of smartphone.

The device boasts a dual-lens rear camera with one of the lenses adopting an extremely fast aperture of F1.6. A lower f-stop number means the camera is capable of gathering more light, leading to better pictures indoors as well as the ability to blur out the background.

That of Samsung Electronics Co.'s Galaxy Note 8, which was also officially launched on Thursday, comes with an aperture of F1.7.

The company also adopted what it calls a Crystal Clear Lens for the first time in the industry, claiming the lens permits users to capture more details compared to other plastic-based lenses.

"We are confident that LG's cameras have always been the best," an official from LG Electronics said, adding the V30 also comes with better design than predecessors as it reduced the lens bump on the back of its latest phone by 60 percent compared to the V20. (Yonhap)
