A big Hollywood director told news sources in an interview that he didn’t think there was anything wrong with incest, even comparing it to gay marriage.

Nick Cassavetes, director of romance blockbuster “The Notebook,” was promoting his new film “Yellow” when he told interviewers that he didn’t see anything wrong with incest. Cassavetes said that because he did not have personal experience with incest, he could not condemn it,

“Love who you want. Isn’t that what we say? Gay marriage — love who you want? If it’s your brother or sister it’s super weird, but if you look at it, you’re not hurting anybody except every single person who freaks out because you’re in love with one another,” he told reporters.

The protagonist of “Yellow” has an affair with her brother as her world falls apart. The Oklahoma teacher loses her job while being addicted to painkillers.

In the interview, Cassavetes said he added the element of incest because “something had to happen to this character that was traumatic and beautiful and made her a pariah. She’s a wipeout of a mess. But I hope people root for this character.”

The movie took three years to finish as it ran into many funding issues. However, the movie was finally completed with Cassavetes’ casino winnings. “Yellow” premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last weekend.

카사베트는 근친상간 요소를 넣은 이유에 대해 “여주인공이 사회로부터 버림받은 사람이 되는 과정에서 뭔가 트라우마를 일으킬 만하면서 아름다운 사건이 필요했기 때문”이라고 말했다.

“그녀는 엉망진창이 되어버렸지만, 관객들이 그녀를 응원하게 되었으면 합니다”라고 그는 덧붙였다.

한편 이 영화는 예산부족으로 인해 완성하는데 3년이나 걸렸는데, 감독 카사베트가 카지노에서 딴 돈 덕분에 마침내 제작을 마칠 수 있었던 것으로 알려졌다. (코리아헤럴드)
