A memoir by the late rock singer Shin Hae-chul will be published on Christmas Eve, the publisher Munhakdongne said.

“Mawang Shin Hae-chul” is a collection of short essays and stories that Shin wrote before he died in October. “Mawang,” or demon lord, is the late singer’s nickname.

Having found Shin’s writings on his personal computer, the bereaved family decided to publish the book to tell the legendary rocker’s personal story. 

It is scheduled for release Dec. 24, the same day Shin made his debut in 1988 and won the grand prize at a popular college song contest with his song, “To You.”

The 468-page book is divided into three sections, with the first part centering on his personal history and daily episodes of his music career spanning 25 years. The second section delivers his thoughts on social issues. He was known for his sharp tongue, often making blunt comments about controversial issues.

The last section includes letters of condolence offered by family members, friends and public figures, including singer and Shin’s distant relative Seo Tae-ji, opposition lawmaker Moon Jae-in and news anchor Sohn Suk-hee.

The late singer died on Oct. 27, at the age of 46 after suffering a massive heart attack that left him in a comatose state for five days. The cardiac attack appears to be due to complications arising from intestinal surgery he had undergone five days earlier.

The police are investigating his death, following a complaint filed by Shin’s wife claiming medical malpractice by the doctor who operated on him on Oct. 17.
