A South Korean startup will provide Korean media content such as K-pop and popular drama series to leading Chinese tech companies from next year, the company said Thursday.

ApolloPnc, a Seoul-based content platform provider set up in 2013, will service online streaming of Korean TV programs and music from February next year to Xiaomi Inc., the world's third-largest smartphone maker, Hisense Co., China's No. 1 TV maker, online video site LeTV and TCL Corp., the world's third-biggest TV maker.

The company will hold a signing ceremony in Seoul on Friday, attended by officials from the Chinese partners, ApolloPnc said.

The Korean firm has clinched deals in the last few years with local media companies that own such TV content to gain the sole rights to provide the programs to the world's most populous country.

ApolloPnc said it hopes tapping into China will bring more opportunities for Korean media content to extend its reach overseas.

South Korean media content has gained huge popularity in China and other Asian countries, a phenomenon often described as the Korean Wave, or "Hallyu." (Yonhap)
