Two U.S. F-22 stealth fighter jets will perform aerial demonstrations during the Seoul International Aerospace and Defense Exhibition to be hosted by the Defense Ministry this week, the U.S. Seventh Air Force said Monday.
"Aerial demonstrations will be performed by the F-22 Demonstration Team from Langley Air Force Base, Virginia, and the C-17 Demonstration team from Hickam AFB, Hawaii," the Seventh Air Force headquartered at Osan Air Base said.
About 150 U.S. military service members from the U.S. Air Force and Army will participate in the ADEX where other U.S. aircrafts like the KC-135 aerial tanker, F-16 combat planes, and E-3 early warning and control aircraft will also be brought in for static display, according to the Seventh Air Forces.
The ADEX is to kick off Tuesday at the Seoul Air Base, just south of the capital, for a six-day run.
This will be the first time the U.S. F-22 Raptors perform an air show in an open-to-the-public event in South Korea.
"The Seoul ADEX 2015 represents a unique opportunity for citizens of the Republic of Korea to get an up-close look at some of the air assets the U.S. military brings to the ROK-U.S.
Alliance," Seventh Air Force commander Lt. Gen. Terrence O'Shaughnessy said in the statement. "This is our very small way of saying thank you for all the generosity and support the people of Korea show our airmen every day." (Yonhap)
