Hwang Sun-hye, dean of Sookmyung Women’s University in Seoul, has been appointed the new president of the Korea National Ballet, the Culture Ministry announced Thursday.

She will run the national ballet troupe for the next four years, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said in a press statement.

Hwang, 60, became the president of the Seoul-based college in 2012 after teaching for more than three decades in the department of English language and literature. A graduate of Sookmyung University and the University of Pennsylvania, she also currently serves as the vice chairwoman of an association of private universities in Korea.

She will be in charge of the troupe’s administrative affairs, while Kang Sue-jin, its artistic director since February, will continue to look after the troupe’s artistic concerns. Kang, arguably the country’s most renowned ballerina and one of the principals of Germany’s Stuttgart Ballet, replaced Choi Tae-ji, who had held the position for six years.
