Bong Joon-ho among BIFF’s New Currents jury members

The Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) said on Thursday that it has named five jurors for this year’s New Currents competition section, including director Bong Joon-ho who gained international fame for his 2013 sci-fi thriller “Snowpiercer.”
The New Currents presents works by promising new directors from Asia. Jurors will select two out of the 12 films in the competition to each receive a $30,000 award.
The jury will be led by Asghar Farhadi, a renowned Iranian director who received the Golden Bear for “Jodaeiye Nader az Simin” (2011) at the Berlin International Film Festival, the BIFF said.
Also among the jurors are Dina Iordanova, a British screenwriter; Jacques Ranciere, a professor emeritus at the University of Paris VIII; and Suhasini Maniratnam, an Indian actress, director and screen writer.
The 19th edition of the festival will run from Oct. 2-11 in South Korea’s southern port city of Busan. (Yonhap)
