The King Sejong Institute has launched an online resource to help people studying Korean learn common phrases more easily using pictures and sounds.

The institute, run by the International Korean Language Foundation, will begin a new section on its website starting Thursday, which explains key Korean words and phrases with pictures. The section also includes sounds, helping users hear how the Korean words are pronounced.

For the first week, the section will feature vocabulary related to fruits and vegetables. Every Thursday, a new set of vocabulary will become available, with a different theme each week, such as jobs or cooking.

This service is available to the public for free in a total of eight languages, including Korean, English, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Spanish and Russian.

“The new service was launched in hopes of providing a more interactive and effective tools for learning Korean. King Sejong Institute will continue to work toward developing more useful Korean education material in the future,” the institute’s chairman Song Hyang-geun said.

To access the service, visit the institute’s website at www.sejonghakdang.org and click “Learners.” From the menu on the left labeled “Grammar Pronunciation Vocabulary,” click “Vocabulary.”
