Children in Britain are unprotected from sex crimes due to lack of governmental inspection, the Daily Mail reported. The research conducted by Child Exploitation and Online Protection Center said that 2,083 young victims of sexual grooming had been identified since 2008, and that the number was likely the tip of the iceberg. The report said among the victims, 842 were runaway girls.

The report aroused controversy for high-lighting that one out of five men accused of grooming was Asian.

Keith Vaz, the chairman of the Home Affairs Committee of the UK parliament, warned that the report could attach a stigma to a certain community.

The report was produced after two Pakistani men, Abid Saddique and Mohammed Liaquat, were convicted of grooming underage girls for sex.

The two men dragged their victims into parks and hotel rooms to have coerced sexual intercourse after forcing them to drink vodka and inhale cocaine.

英 어린이들, 갱단에 납치돼 성착취 당해

보고서 "2008년 이후 2천83명..빙산의 일각"

영국의 어린 소녀들이 당국의 적절한 보호를 받지 못해 성범죄 자의 손아귀에 떨어지고 있다는 내용의 보고서가 나왔다.

영국 일간 데일리메일의 인터넷판인 메일온라인은 20일(현지시각) 이같은 내용 을 담은 '어린이 착취방지 및 온라인 보호센터'(CEOP)의 고발 보고서를 소개했다.

이에 따르면 2008년 이후 영국에서 2천83명이 성매매 대상이 되고 있으며 전문가 들은 이같은 수치는 빙산의 일각에 불과하다고 지적하고 있다.

CEOP는 피해자 가운데 842명이 집이나 어린이 보호시설에서 가출한 어린이라면 서 당국이 이같은 문제를 수사하는데 실패하고 있다고 지적했다.

그러나 이 보고서에서 성행위 대상으로 소녀들을 찾는 남성 5명 가운데 1명은 아시아인이라고 밝힘에 따라 이 보고서가 민족성에 대한 논쟁을 불어올 수 있다는 우려도 나오고 있다.

영국 의회 내무위원회의 케이스 바즈 위원장은 이와 관련, 해당 보고서가 특정 커뮤니티를 낙인찍을 수 있다고 경고하기도 했다.

이 보고서는 최근 소녀들을 대상으로 성폭행과 성폭력을 저지른 갱단의 우두머 리 2명이 유죄판결을 받은 후 나온 것이다.

파키스탄계인 아비드 사디크와 모하메드 리아콰트는 모두 어린이와 결혼했으며, 영국 더비 거리에서 차를 타고 다니며 범죄 대상을 찾았다.

이들은 피해 어린이들에게 보드카를 강제로 마시게 한 뒤 공원이나 호텔방 등으 로 끌고다녔으며 코카인을 먹이고 성행위를 강요했다.
