South Korea’s weapons procurement agency plans to resume deploying a new airburst assault rifle in November after fixing technical problems with its fire control system and laser range-finder, officials said Monday.

The K-11 dual-caliber rifle has been issued to the Army since June last year, making it the world’s first military to use an airburst rifle as a standard issue. However, problems with the fire control system caused some rifles to miss targets, according to the Defense Acquisition Program Agency.

“There are problems in the fire control system because the K-11 generates a lot of shock and vibration when it is fired,” said a DAPA official.

“After modifying the shape of the fire control system by June and conducting field tests by October, we will resume deploying the K-11 rifle from around November,” the official said on the condition of anonymity.
