Soomdo offers Buddhist art program

Soomdo Academy is offering a program on Korean Buddhist Art especially for English speakers.

Korean Buddhist Art Expert Lou Morrison will deliver a lecture Friday on Buddhist scroll paintings at 7 p.m. at Soomdo Culture Space in Sinsu-dong near Daeheung Station.

Morrison will introduce Gabeul Taenghwa, giant Buddhist scrolls measuring up to 10 meters in length that were made in the second half of the Joseon period and unfurled for special ceremonies.

On the May 10, Buddha’s birthday, participants will visit Bongseon Temple in Uijeongbu at 3 p.m. for traditional ceremonies.

Space is limited to 20 people and attendance costs 15,000 won. To register download the application form from http://www.soomdo.org and send it to soomdo@naver.com before May 5.
