Singer-actor Park Yoo-chun of boy group JYJ joined the Korean Army as a conscript Thursday afternoon, beginning his two-year mandatory military service.

The 29-year-old enlisted at an Army training camp in Nonsan, South Chungcheong Province, where he will receive five weeks of basic military training. After the training, he will serve as a public service worker at a public office in substitute for the active duty service at a military camp, due to his asthma.

He is the second to enlist among the JYJ trio. Kim Jae-joong, his fellow JYJ member, joined the military in March.

“Respecting Park’s wishes for a low-key enlistment, the admission ceremony will take place in private,” Park’s label C-JeS Entertainment said earlier Tuesday.

“For me, it was a blessing to be able to spend every moment filled with your love and support,” said Park during the last official fan event “Membership Week” on Tuesday. “I hope the day will come soon when all three members come together on stage.”

Park recently starred in TV drama “The Girl Who Sees Smells” alongside actress Shin Se-kyung.

All able-bodied men aged between 18 and 35 are required to serve in the military for about two years in a country that is still technically at war with North Korea.
