Bikers will hold a rally as part of a festival to raise funds for a Korean children’s center.

The third annual Angels Ride is to hit the road in Daejeon on May 28. Up to 40 bikers from Daejeon Riders motorcycle club are expected to take part in the sponsored ride before lining their bikes up in downtown Daejeon. Expats from bike clubs from Gumi and Daegu are also set to join the event along with more Korean riders than in previous years.

The event to be held from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. will also include family games and entertainment in Daejeon square. 

Expat bands from Daejeon, Busan, and Cheongju will play acoustic, rock and jazz on stage. A Korean dance group will also entertain the crowd with family games and competitions held to raise extra cash. Burgers from local business House Grill and Mexican food from Taco de Flaco will also be on sale.

The event has been organized by Joel Rasmussen, Todd Seffrood and Earl Noble in connection with the Daejeon Riders and Daejeon Access magazine.

Rasmussen said: “We want to help people that have no parents, no family structure and no support group that most of us experience as a matter of course.

“This year we have sponsorship from the Daejeon International Community Center as well as bars and restaurants in Daejeon and Seoul. This is great because it means more of the money raised on the day will go directly to help the children’s center rather than on the overheads for organizing the event.

“We will have signs up in English and Korean to let everyone know what is going on and hope to get a good crowd on the day. The event was a lot of fun in previous years so we hope that everyone can enjoy themselves while raising money for a good cause.”

He is looking for volunteers to help collect funds from the crowd between musical acts.

The previous two years’ events raised a total of around 3.7 million won for Daejeon’s Tanbang Children’s Center, with leftover toys and prizes from the events also going to kids at the center.
