To mark the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, the country has held the Communist Olympics in Qingyang, Gansu Province between June 26 and 28, said the U.K.’s Telegraph newspaper.

Each team wore uniforms and performed in a series of dramatic events including grenade chucking, model explosive carrying and "shoulder pole carrying."

A race named “Storming the blockhouse” involved participants running 25m, crawling 5m under barbed wire, then running 50m amid a minefield of traffic cones to the finish line.

The games were made in an attempt to boost the people’s "revolutionary spirit" in the midst of social tensions.

Hao Yuan, the vice-governor of the province said that other nationwide activities and actions are important, but holding the Red Games in an old revolutionary region is crucial and meaningful. He hoped the Games would be “a lavish gift to the Party and the country.”
