S. Korean pop groups arrive in Paris for shows amid fanfare

PARIS, June 8 (Yonhap) -- Some of South Korea's biggest pop groups arrived on Wednesday in the French capital for upcoming concerts amid much fanfare, as hundreds of eager French fans greeted their favorite artists at the largest airport here.

Popular acts TVXQ, SHINee and f(x), all managed by South Korean agency S.M. Entertainment, landed at Charles de Gaulle Airport, with about 700 members of a fan group, Korean Connection, chanting their names and singing their songs.

The three "K-pop" groups and other S.M. acts are scheduled to perform in Paris this Friday and Saturday. These will be their first concerts in Europe.

S.M. initially scheduled only one show for this Friday at Le Zenith de Paris concert hall, which seats about 6,000, but later added another show for Saturday. Tickets for the first show sold out in 15 minutes, prompting hundreds of French fans to rally in front of the Louvre Museum to demand an extra show.

The pop groups made a quick exit from the airport, passing through screaming fans jostling for a closer look. Their mere appearance reduced some to tears.

"I've waited for more than three hours, but I barely saw their faces," said a schoolgirl fan. "I took some photos, but nothing came out clearly."

Another fan, a high school student, said she was also frustrated with the bedlam that followed the pop groups' arrival, but added, "At least I got to see K-pop stars in person, so I am pleased with that."

K-pop has recently gained worldwide popularity through video-sharing Web sites, such as YouTube, and social networking services (SNS). Up until recently, Japan and parts of Southeast Asia had been the international domain for K-pop.

S.M. manages its own YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/smtown) and a Facebook page (www.facebook.com/smtown).

The agency said earlier this week that highlights of the Paris shows will be released on the YouTube channel and that it will upload the latest pictures of its artists on Facebook.

The S.M. tour stopped previously in Seoul, Los Angeles, Tokyo and Shanghai and will return to Tokyo in September this year. S.M.

officials said fans in other parts of Europe and South Korea have held rallies asking for K-pop concerts in their countries.

(현지시간) 프랑스의 '열성' 한류 팬들이 연호하는 K팝 가수들의 이름으로 들썩였다 .

프랑스의 한류 팬클럽인 '코리안 커넥션' 회원 700여명이 이날 'SM타운 라이브 월드투어' 공연차 프랑스를 방문하는 SM엔터테인먼트 소속 동방신기와 샤이니, 에프 엑스를 마중하기 위해 공항을 찾은 것.

이날 오후 2시부터 모여들기 시작한 한류 팬들은 오후 5시를 넘기면서 입국장 입구를 꽉 메운 뒤 자신들이 좋아하는 가수들의 노래를 부르며 K팝 가수들의 첫 유 럽 입성을 기다렸다.

이들은 "샤이니가 좋아요", "윤재(동방신기의 유노윤호+영웅재중을 일컬음) 사 랑해요" 등을 외치다 장내를 정리하던 '코리안 커넥션' 간부진의 지휘에 맞춰 환호 를 이어가기도 했다.

특히 '코리안 커넥션'의 최연장 회원에 속한다는 65세의 미셸 오노레 씨는 태극 무늬가 들어간 머리띠를 두르고 입국장 앞에서 한류 팬들을 정리해 관심을 모았다.

그는 "인터넷을 보고 K팝에 관심을 갖게 됐으며 소녀시대를 좋아한다"면서 "지금은 한국드라마와 쇼만 본다"고 말했다.

한쪽에서는 샤이니의 '링딩동', 슈퍼주니어의 '쏘리 쏘리', 소녀시대의 '지지' 등을 부르면서 춤을 추는 모습도 목격됐다.

3팀의 K팝 가수들이 입국장을 빠져나오는 순간 기다리던 팬들은 환호성을 지르 면서 셔터를 눌러댔으며, 순식간에 빠져나간 K팝 가수들을 연호하며 뒤따라가 검은 색 리무진을 타고 떠날 때까지 발을 구르며 지켜봤다.

일부 팬들은 K팝 가수들을 직접 볼 수 있었다며 환한 미소 속에 기뻐하는 모습 이었으나, 가수들이 너무 빨리 빠져나가는 바람에 제대로 보지도 못했다며 주저앉아 눈물을 흘리는 소녀팬들도 있었다.

중학교 3학년생이라는 노라 양은 "3시간이 넘도록 기다렸는데 얼굴을 보지도 못 하고 카메라로 찍은 사진도 하나도 제대로 된 게 없었다"며 아쉬워했다.

다른 여고생 팬인 카롤린 양은 "유럽에 처음 들어오는 K팝 가수들을 진정으로 환영하기 위해 왔는데 모두 정신이 없는데다 질서도 잘 지켜지지 않아 속상하다"면 서 "하지만 K팝 스타들을 직접 만나볼 수 있어 좋았다"고 말했다.

또다른 여고생 셀린 양은 "이번 SM타운의 공연을 계기로 K팝 가수들이 더욱 많 이 프랑스를 방문했으면 좋겠다"면서 "그렇게 되면 한국의 다양한 문화도 자연스럽 게 전파돼 더욱 사랑받지 않겠느냐'고 반문했다.

이날 한류팬들의 모습을 지켜보던 한 연예 관계자는 "K팝 인기가수들이 일본이 나 동남아시아를 방문할 때 매스컴으로 지켜보는 분위기와 별반 다르지 않다"면서 "10-11일 공연이 기대된다"고 말했다.
