The Korea Communications Commission on Monday unveiled its master plan for cyber security, including expanding inter-governmental cooperation and triggering more participation of private experts, to deal with the rising security threat.

The commission, together with 14 other governmental agencies, agreed they would draft measures that would put a focus on prevention, detection, correspondence and constructing policies and footwork, it said.

According to the plan, the National Intelligence Service’s cyber security center will become the control tower and the KCC will take charge of the private sector, including telecommunications and broadcast, and the Financial Services Commission will be responsible for the financial sector. The Defense Ministry will also oversee the defense sector and the Ministry of Administrative Affairs and Security will take responsibility for the e-government services and the national computing and information center, it said.

“We’re determined to get rid of the blind spots and the overlapping duties of the ministries that have been named problems in times of a cyber crisis by clarifying the role of each ministry and the meaning of a control tower,” said a KCC official.
