Gwangju International Center is organizing a guided tour to Yeongam in South Jeolla Province on Sept. 17.

The tour will be guided by Warren Parson, a teacher at Dongshin University and will take in a fig Wolchulsan National Park, Dogapsa and a fig orchard.

The tour will start with a visit to a historical site related to Wangin, a Baekje scholar who traveled to Japan with examples of Confucian teachings and Chinese characters.

Participants will then travel to Wolchulsan, where after a short walk through the woods they will see Wangin’s school and the cave he studied in.

After lunch, they will visit Dogapsa, a temple on Wolchulsan that has some of the oldest gates in Korea, and an orchard for Yeongam’s specialty ― figs.

The tour costs 40,000 won including entrance fees, transport and lunch at a Korean restaurant.

Reservations are open until Sept. 10. For more information visit www.gic.or.kr.
