South Korea bought military weapons worth 982 billion won ($910 million) from the United States last year, a state-run arms procurement agency said Monday.

Seoul's arms purchase from its strongest political ally accounted for roughly 66 percent of its total arms procurement, according to the report released by the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA).

Asia's fourth-largest economy bought 66 billion won worth of arms from Israel, followed by England with 58.4 billion won and Germany with 47.2 billion won, it said.

The U.S. has been the biggest arms seller to South Korea over the last five years, trailed by Germany, Israel, England and Turkey, the report showed. (Yonhap News)
