A town in Wales caused a stir with its unusual name. The small Welsh village of Sully, which is spelled “Sili” in Welsh, drew people’s attention, with some confusing the name with “silly,” according to the British daily, Metro.

The town’s people held a vote and the majority voted the name should be changed. Locals preferred “Abersili” as the Welsh town name instead, the newspaper reported.

On the other hand, there are towns that have held on to their unique name.

One of them is “F***” in Austria. Spelled exactly the same as the four-letter curse word, the small town is located 4 km from the German border, the report said.

In 2004, residents took a vote on whether to retain the name or not, and decided to keep it. English-speaking tourists are known to occasionally steal the town’s sign as a souvenir, according to the report.

A beer named after the town also drew attention. Recently, however, the EU’s trademark authority approved the use of the beer name “F****** Hell.” Hell is a German word for a kind of pale lager.

In Texas, in the United States, there is town called “Uncertain.”

According to the United States Census Bureau, about 150 people lived in the town as of the year 2000. Located near Caddo Lake, the area is popular for fishing and birdwatching.
