Comedian-turned-radio host Kim Mi-hwa said Monday she would resign after being accused of plagiarism.

Kim has been the target of public debate over the past few days after a local daily reported Saturday that she had plagiarized major portions of her master's thesis in 2011 from various authors.

She has been working as the host of a news program on the CBS FM radio channel since November 2011.

"I will step down as the host of the news program on Monday," Kim wrote on her Twitter account. "I think this is the right way to assume responsibility for causing trouble."

She then apologized in public for the plagiarism and pledged to take proper punishment if her entire thesis turns out to be based on earlier works.

Debuting as a comedian for the nation's largest broadcaster KBS in 1983, Kim rose to stardom with her comic character, "Sunakjil," a rather ugly newly-wed wife grunting and sometimes behaving violently toward her handsome husband. The 48-year-old star later became a TV and radio show host but was fired from her MBC radio program in April 2011 after criticizing then President Lee Myung-bak. She earned a master's degree in journalism from Seoul's Sungkyunkwan University the same year. (Yonhap News)

'논문표절' 김미화 라디오 하차의사 밝혀

개그우먼이자 라디오 진행자인 김미화가 월요일 논문표절 의혹이 있은 시사 프로그램 '김미화의 여러분' 에서 하차하겠다는 뜻을 밝혔다.

그녀는 지난 며칠동안 느꺼운 논란이 된 논문표절의혹에 있어 2011년 자신의 석사학위논문에 일부 부적절한 재인용 내지 옮김으로 인해 표절이라는 의혹을 받은 점을 인정했다.

김미화는 24일 밤 9시50분께 자신의 트위터에 "25일자로 시사프로그램 진행에서 내려오겠다"라며 "이것이 논란에 책임을 지는 모습이자 도리라고 생각한다"라고  적 었다.

그녀는 표전 논란이 있었던 점을 대중에게 사과하고 만약 일부 표절로 재인용 내지 옮김으로 인해 논문 전체가 표절로 판명되며 그 결과를 받아드리고 기꺼이 징벌을 감수하겠다고 언급했다.

1983년 KBS 코미디 프로그램으로 데뷔한 김미화는 "순악질 여사"로 일약 스타덤에 올랐다. 올해 48살이 되는 그녀는 여러 텔레비젼과 라디오 진행자로 활발한 활동을 벌여왔으나 2011년 4월 자신이 진행하던 MBC 라디오 프로그램에서 이명박대통령에 대한 비난의 화살을 꽂은 후 프로그램을 그만두게 되었다. 김미화는 성균관대학교 언론대학원에서 당해 석사학위를 받았다. (코리아헤럴드)
