POSCO announced that the company’s senior executive vice president Kim Joon-sik has been named the new CEO of the International Stainless Steel Forum, or ISSF.

The appointment was made during the ISSF 16th Annual Conference, which opened in Beijing, China on May 16.

Kim previously served as co-vice chairman for the ISSF’s executive board.

Industry insiders said the appointment reaffirmed the Korean steel conglomerate’s global status, which ranks among the best in the industry.

Kim said that during his one-year term in office, he will work to help the ISSF highlight its strengths and will also encourage joint action by members to resolve current problems faced by the industry.

Established in 1996, the ISSF consists of 27 member countries and 72 stainless and special steel manufacturers and affiliated associations, according to the organization’s official website. The executive office is located in Brussels, Belgium.
