Merck, a German-based science and technology company, will present its contributions to advancing the electronics industry through "material intelligence" at CES 2024, the company said Monday.

“We are pushing the boundaries of science and technology to make future trends possible. Together with our customers, we enable artificial intelligence,” said Kai Beckmann, a member of Merck's executive board and CEO of the electronics division.

“Our customers use our material intelligence to produce the most advanced computer chips. With our display and semiconductor solutions, we enable the electronic devices consumers know and love, such as the newest and most advanced mobile phones, and processing units empowering AI applications such as ChatGPT.”

In the materials industry, Merck provides the innovation required to create next-generation chips that power AI and other key mega trends, the company said.

Taking part in this year's CES, the world's biggest IT and consumer appliances exhibition in Las Vegas, Merck is hosting several discussions on topics ranging from AI and startups to women's entrepreneurship.

In a panel discussion dubbed, "The Hard Part of AI: Hardware and Chips," sponsored by Consumer Technology Association, Merck's Chief Science and Technology Officer Laura Matz will talk about the hardware and the practical building blocks powering the generative AI technology breaking into the mainstream.

Katherine Dei Cas, Merck's executive vice president and global head of delivery systems and services, will join a panel discussion with policymakers and business leaders and propose actionable strategies to empower women in tech and promote gender representation in the industry.

Merck said it will also be bringing together industry leaders and entrepreneurs from the ventures world to forge critical connections and showcase cutting-edge demos at a meet and greet session for startups, dubbed, "Advancing Innovation, Fostering Connections."

Around the globe, Merck has more than 64,000 employees working on products and services that accelerate drug development and manufacturing, as well as on finding unique ways to treat the most challenging diseases and enhance the intelligence of devices.

Merck's Korean office was established in 1989 and currently has about 1,750 employees working in various sectors, including biopharmaceuticals and semiconductors.
