Euroskeptic and right-wing parties made strong showings in the European elections last week, according to provisional results.

In France, the far-right National Front stormed to victory with 25 percent of the vote, while the anti-EU mood also swept Britain where the Euroskeptic U.K Independence Party came first with 27 percent support of the domestic vote.

Germany, on the other hand, saw its Chancellor Angela Merkel’s pro-EU camp celebrate winning 36 percent of the vote.

The projections for the European Parliament showed Monday that the center-right European People’s Party appears likely to win 213 out of the 751 seats, with 28.5 percent across the bloc, while the Socialist alliance has an estimated 190 seats, with 25 percent of the vote.
