South Korea will host Peru in a friendly in August, the sport’s national governing body announced Wednesday.
The Korea Football Association said South Korea and Peru will meet on Aug. 14.
The time and venue for the match have not yet been determined, the KFA said.
Peru is 30th in the current FIFA world rankings, 10 spots above South Korea. The two countries have met only once in the past.
In February 1971 in Lima, Peru, the home team blanked the visiting side 4-0.
Earlier this week, the KFA named former national team captain Hong Myung-bo as the new head coach for the national team.
South Korea will host the East Asian Cup, bringing together Australia, China and Japan, from July 20 to 28, for Hong’s first international event.
The Peru match will be Hong’s first contest against an opponent outside Asia. (Yonhap News)
