Two men were killed in Ulsan early this week as heavy snow led to roof collapses and a flurry of other snow-related accidents.
The roof of an automobile parts supplier caved in shortly after midnight on Tuesday, killing a 37-year-old man surnamed Lee and injuring two others in Hyomun-dong, Ulsan.
The roof of the Sejin glass factory was made from plastic foam sandwiched between two thin iron plates, according to the local police. It collapsed when it failed to shoulder the weight of the snow.
Earlier Monday, the roof collapsed at an automobile parts supplier, killing a man identified by the surname Kim. The 19-year-old was a high school intern working at the Ulsan Kumyong E.T.S. factory.
Around 30 emergency calls have been made reporting factory roof collapses and other accidents since noon Sunday. The cumulative amount of snowfall from Sunday to Tuesday in Ulsan was measured at 16 centimeters, making it the fifth-heaviest snowfall on record for the region, according to the Ulsan Meteorological Office.
