Hong Myung-bo will soon travel to Europe to see players expected to join his squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, the sport’s local governing body said Tuesday.

The Korea Football Association said Hong will likely depart two days after South Korea plays Peru on Wednesday.

When not faced with scheduling conflicts with European seasons, South Korea typically takes about a dozen Europe-based players to international matches.

Most of the South Koreans currently playing in Europe were integral members of the national team during its World Cup qualifying tournament.

Hong will first travel to Germany to see three Koreans in the top-tier Bundesliga: forward Son Heung-min of Bayer Leverkusen, midfielder Koo Ja-cheol of VfL Wolfsburg and fullback Park Joo-ho of Mainz.

Four more South Koreans are in the English Premier League: winger Kim Bo-kyung of Cardiff City, midfielder Ki Sung-yueng of Swansea City, forward Park Chu-young of Arsenal and forward Ji Dong-won of Sunderland. (Yonhap News)
