South Korean midfielder Ki Sung-yueng is seeking to leave Swansea City in English Premier League, an informed source revealed on Friday.

"Ki's agent is trying to find a new team in England," said the source, privy to the transfer market in European football. "He's waiting for offers from Premier League clubs and also other European teams."

Ki, 24, is in his second season with Swansea City. After joining them from Celtic in Scotland last August, Ki appeared in 38 matches -- 29 in Premier League, two in FA Cup and seven in the League Cup -- as the club's primary holding midfielder and designated kicker on set pieces. Ki's three-year deal with Swansea City is reportedly worth a club-record 6 million pounds (US$9.3 million).

The South Korean has represented his country in 51 international matches and was a member of the 2010 FIFA World Cup team that reached the round of 16 in South Africa. He's known for his vision, physical play and passing skills.

According to football sources, Ki had a fallout with his head coach, Michael Laudrup, late last season and remained in his doghouse at the start of the current season.

It hasn't helped Ki's cause that Swansea City acquired more defensive midfielders in the summer, such as Jose Canas and Jonjo Shelvey.

Canas made the start in the team's season opener against Manchester United on Aug. 18, and Ki replaced him in the 77th minute. In the UEFA Europa League playoff match against Petrolul Ploiesti of Romania on Thursday, Ki wasn't even on the active roster.

Welsh media have reported that Sunderland, another Premier League club, is interested in Ki's service. Wales Online said Ki has "slipped down the pecking order" on Swansea City after the arrivals of Canas and Shelvey, adding that Ki could be loaned to Sunderland.

A South Korean forward Ji Dong-won is playing for Sunderland.

"Sunderland AFC News and Banter," a Facebook page covering the club's news, said the team's head coach, Paolo Di Canio, wants to acquire Ki.

Midfielder Kim Bo-kyung of Cardiff City and forward Park Chu-young of Arsenal are two other South Koreans in the top English circuit. (Yonhap News)
