A pitcher from the LG Twins in the country’s top professional baseball league has been arrested on suspicion of match-fixing, prosecutors in Daegu said Tuesday.

The Daegu District Prosecutors’ Office announced that they arrested the 23-year-old pitcher Kim Sung-hyun on charges of rigging matches in return for receiving money from a 29-year-old broker named Kang. Prosecutors said the pitcher was introduced to the gambling broker by a former college baseball player named Kim, who was also arrested on Saturday as a part of their investigation into the massive game-rigging scam.

The 26-year-old former college ball player reportedly testified that he contacted another pitcher from the Seoul-based LG Twins to fix matches.

The prosecutors said they will arrest the alleged pitcher and will look into the possibility of other baseball players being involved in the match-rigging scandal.

The announcement came less than a month after the Daegu District Prosecutors’ Office arrested three volleyball players in the V-League on charges of match-fixing.

So far, the prosecutors have confirmed 15 match-fixing cases between the 2009 and 2011 seasons with at least 13 players in the men’s league and two players from the women’s league involved.
