프로포폴 불법투여 의혹을 수사 중인 검찰이 프로포폴 투약 혐의로 탤런트 박시연(34)씨를 조사했다.

서울중앙지검 강력부에 따르면 박씨가 서울 강남구 청담동 일대 성형외과나 피부과에서 수면 유도제인 프로포폴을 수차례 투약한 바가 있다고 밝혔다. 검찰이 지난달 청담동 일대 성형외과와 피부과 7곳에서 압수수색한 진료기록과 병원관계자 진술에서 탤런트 장미인애(29), 탤런트 이승연(45), 방송인 현영(37)씨의 혐의도 포착했다.

이들은 그러나 '미용이나 치료 목적이었을 뿐 일부러 프로포폴을 맞은 것은 아니다'며 혐의를 부인한 것으로 알려졌다.

프로포폴은 주로 수면 내시경이나 간단한 성형수술에 쓰이는 마취제로 많이 쓰이는 전문의약품으로 시술을 받는 도중 숙면을 취하게 도와준다. 또한, 스트레스 완화 및 안정을 취할 수 있도록 도와줘 사용자가 환각상태에 빠지기도 한다. 프로포폴의 과다 복용은 고(故) 마이클 잭슨의 사망원인이기도 하다.

박씨는 최근 한미합작영화 <더 라스트 나이츠>를 클라이브 오웬과 모건 프리먼과 함께 프라하 체코에서 촬영했으며, 2013년 하반기 북미 전역과 한국을 비롯한 전세계 동시 개봉을 목표로 하고 있다. (코리아헤럴드)

Park Si-yeon investigated for illegal drug use

Popular actress Park Si-yeon is being investigated for the illegal use of the drug propofol, a type of anesthetic, after three other actresses were investigated on the same charge last month. The drug is classified as a psychotropic medicine in Korea.

According to the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office, Park has been using the drug for non-medical purposes at a number of dermatology and plastic surgery clinics in Cheongdam-dong in southern Seoul. Actresses Lee Seung-yeon, Jang Mi-in-ae, and Hyun Young were also on the list that the prosecution confiscated from seven clinics in the area in December.

The celebrities are said to have testified that they only used the drug as a part of their dermatology and beauty treatments received at the clinics.

Propofol is often used for short diagnostic tests and surgeries, causing the patient to fall asleep before and during the procedure. It also reduces anxiety and promotes relaxation, and may cause a person to experience hallucinations. An overdose of the drug is suspected as one of the causes of Michael Jackson’s death.

Park recently shot a joint Korean-American production film “The Last Knights” in Prague, the Czech Republic, along with Hollywood actor Morgan Freeman and British actor Clive Owen. The film is slated to open in the U.S. in the second half of this year.
