German 'vampire' jailed for life

GOETTINGEN, Germany, June 27, 2011 (AFP) - A court in Germany Monday ruled that a 26-year-old man who murdered two teenagers, chewing on parts of one of them and drinking her blood, will never be free again.

Jan O. was given a life sentence by the court in Goettingen, central Germany. He will be sent to a psychiatric unit and will never be released because of the danger he posed to the public.

The defendant had admitted to strangling 14-year-old Nina last November, drinking her blood and chewing bits of flesh from her neck in order, the court found, to "satisfy his sexual desires."

Five days later he strangled 13-year-old Tobias when the boy stumbled across Nina's body in woodland. He initially thought the boy was a girl because of his long hair.

Presiding judge Ralf Guenther said that the alcoholic and drug addict had committed "unimagineable crimes, taking a daughter from her mother and a son from his parents."

범인 얀 외트케(26)는 지난해 11월 독일 중부 괴팅겐 인근 보덴펠데 시 외곽의 숲 속에서 어린 소녀 니나(14)를 칼로 찌르고 목을 졸라 살해한 후 사체 일부를 뜯 어 먹고 피를 마신 것으로 전해졌다. 살해 전에는 성적인 학대까지 가했다.

5일 후에는 역시 같은 숲에서 13세 소년 토비아스가 니나의 시신에 걸려 넘어지 자 역시 목을 졸라 죽였다. 언론이 '보덴펠데의 괴물'이라고 부른 외트케는 법정에 서 토비아스를 살해한 것은 머리칼이 길어 여자 아이로 착각했기 때문이었다고 말했 다.

사건이 알려지자 보덴펠데의 어린이들은 집 밖 출입을 삼갔으나 용의자는 일주 일 후 시내 중심가에서 다른 여자아이를 꾀어내려다 붙잡혔다.

실업자이자 마약중독자인 그는 법정에서 "성적인 욕망을 채우기 위해" 피를 마 셨고, 목부터 살점을 씹었다고 자백했다.

랄프 귄터 판사는 범인이 '믿을 수 없을 정도의 잘못'을 저질렀다면서 이에 따 라 법정 최고형인 무기징역을 선고한다고 판결했다.
