노브레인과 구남과여라디잉스텔라, 로다운30이 서울소닉 3.0을 장식, 전미 투어에 나선다.

세 팀은 `서울소닉`이라는 타이틀로 3월 7일부터 4월 6일까지 북미 지역에서 공식 일정을 소화한다. 서울 소닉 팀은 3월 5일 샌프란시스코로 출발, 7일과 8일 양일에 걸쳐 인너미션 SF에서 첫 일정을 가진다. 이들은 북미 최대 행사로 손꼽히는 텍사스 주의 SXSW, 캐나다의 CMW를 포함해 로드 아일랜드, 뉴욕, 산디에고, 로스앤젤레스를 차례로 투어할 예정이다. 

서울소닉은 2011년 아이튠즈에 한국음악을 공급하는 DFSB가 여러 기획자들과 손잡고 한국 밴드들의 북미 투어를 기획하면서부터 시작됐다. 행사 첫 해에는 갤럭시 익스프레스, 이디오테이프, 비둘기 우유가 전미를 돌았고, 지난 해, 2012년에는 3호선 버터플라이, 크라잉넛, 옐로우 몬스터즈가 투어공연을 펼쳤다.

서울소닉팀은 5일 샌프란시스코로 출발, 7, 8일에 걸쳐 이너미션 SF, 아시안-아메리칸 영화제 행사로 유명한 ‘샌프란시스코 뮤직 매터스 아시아’에서 연달아 공연한다. ‘샌프란시스코 뮤직 매터스 아시아’에서는 서울소닉 참가자들을 제외한 다른 한국 아티스트들 또한 선보일 예정이다.

이날 ‘샌프란시스코 뮤직 매터스 아시아’에는 자체적으로 전미 투어를 하는 갤럭시 익스프레스, 3호선 버터플라이 그리고 SG워너비 출신의 싱어송라이터 김진호가 출연해 자리를 빛낸다. 뿐만 아니라 이날 행사에는 싱가폴, 중국, 대만 신진 밴드들이 함께 공연한다. 

뮤직 매터스의 사장 재스퍼 도낫, Jasper Donat은 “아시아 아티스트들은 재주가 참 많다. 미국 최초로 전 아시아 지역에서 가장 멋진 밴드들을 한자리에 모을 수 있어서 굉장히 영광스럽다,”고 전했다.

3월 12일 서울소닉 참가자들은 텍사스의 주도 오스틴으로 이동, 북미 최대의 음악페스티벌인SXSW, 사우스 바이 사우스 웨스트에 참가한다. 이들은 갤럭시익스프레스, 국카스텐, 더긱스, 에프엑스, 이성열, 정차식 등 대표급 아이돌 스타와 록밴드(총 13팀)과 함께 SXSW 주최 K-POP 코리아 나이트 무대를 장식한다. 

이 밖에도 올해 SXSW에는 스핀매거진이 주최하는 ‘SXSW 스핀 쇼케이스’가 개최될 예정이다. Easy Tiger Patio, 이지타이거 파티오에서 진행될 올해 스핀 쇼케이스에는 2012 SXSW에서 좋은 평을 받은 밴드 갤럭시 익스프레스와 3호선 버트플라이, 2013 서울소닉 참가자들이 공연을 함께해 기대를 모으고 있다.

서울소닉 팀은 SXSW에 이어 토론토로 이동, 3월 21일 캐나다의 가장 큰 음악 컨퍼런스인 캐너디언 뮤직 위크 CMW에도 참가한다. 그 후에도 아이비 리그에 속해있는 브라운 대학에서 열리는 KASCON 26에서 3월 23일 공연, 3월 28일 30일 뉴욕 인디 음악의 중심지인 브루클린 윌리엄스버그에 소재한 285 켄트 애비뉴, 4월 5일 샌 디에이고의 유서 깊은 클럽 틴 캔 에일하우스, 마지막으로 조니 뎁이 소유하고 있는 로스앤젤레스 바이퍼 룸에서 4월 6일 공연으로 투어를 마친다.(코리아헤럴드 쥴리잭슨 기자/ 번역 배수민 인턴기자)

Seoulsonic kicks off North America tour

In its third-year running, the Seoulsonic international music festival announces the events for its 2013 North America Tour 3.0, which will feature local rock bands Goonam, Lowdown 30 and No Brain.

Seoulsonic artists will perform at some of North America’s biggest music festivals including: South By Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas; Canadian Music Week (CMW), Canada’s largest music festival; as well as additional concert dates in Providence, Rhode Island; New York City; San Diego; and Los Angeles.

Seoulsonic first began its’ North American Tour in California at the San Francisco Music Matters Asia showcase held on March 7 and 8. Following the success of last year’s Music Matters Live festival in Singapore, the two-day San Francisco showcase spotlights some of Asia’s top indie musicians.

“Asia is smoking hot for talent at the moment and we‘re delighted to have some biggest and best live bands from the region sharing the same stage for the first time ever in America,” said Jasper Donat, Music Matters Founder and CEO.

Following the Music Matters festival, the Seoulsonic headliners will join other Korean artists such as Galaxy Express, Guckkasten, The Geeks, f(x), Yi Sung-yol and Jeong Cha-sik and showcase their acts as part of the SXSW “K-Pop Night Out” event on March 12.

Representative of the U.S. music publication Spin Magazine have selected this year’s Seoulsonic artists to take part in the SXSW Spin showcase series along with previous year’s Seoulsonic participants Galaxy Express and 3rd Ling Butterfly. The bands will take center stage at the SXSW Spin House Party at Easy Tiger Patio, an event that will also mark the international iTunes release of No Brain’s newest single “Soju Shot” and their greatest hits album “Super High Tension.”

Goonam, Lowdown 30 and No Brain are set to perform at CMW on March 21; at KASCON 26 in Providence on March 23; 285 Kent and Nublu in New York City on March 28 and 30, respectively; Tin Can Alehouse in San Diego on April 5; and finally Dim Mak Studios Los Angeles with special guests Galaxy Express on April 6.
