아역배우 출신 고백, “인생을 망쳤다!”

스티븐 스필버그의 1993년작 ‘쉰들러 리스트’에 아역배우로 출연했던 여성이 이 경험으로 인해 심한 고통을 받았었다고 고백했다.

올리비아 다브로브스카 (24)는 최근 영국 언론과의 인터뷰에서 만 세 살 때 촬영했던 이 영화를 11살 때 처음보고 “몸서리를 쳤다(horrified)”라고 말했다.

“이 영화에 출연한 게 수치스러웠고, 제 영화 내의 역할에 대해 부모님이 누군가에게 말할 때마다 화가 났죠”라고 그녀는 말했다.

‘쉰들러 리스트는 제 2차 세계대전 나치에 의해 자행된 유대인 대학살을 다룬 흑백영화로서, 다브로보스카는 여기서 한 어린 유대인 희생자 역을 맡았다. 주인공인 오스카 쉰들러는 수용소에 있는 군중 속에서 어린 소녀의 모습을 보고, 나중에 그녀의 시신을 본 다음 유대인을 최대한 많이 살려야겠다는 마음을 먹게 된다.

이 장면에서 붉은 옷을 입고 있는 소녀의 모습은 영화에서 유일하게 색을 띠고 있는 장면이다.

다브로보스카는 감독 스필버그와 “18세가 되면 영화를 보겠다”라고 약속했음에도, 11살 때 처음 영화를 봤는데, 그녀는 이 영화가 너무 끔찍했고(horrible) 다시는 보고 싶지 않았다고 회고했다.

그녀는 또한 자라나는 과정에서 이 영화로 인해 원치 않는 주목을 받는 것 역시 부담스러웠다고 말했다.

그녀는 출연사실을 비밀로 하기 위해 노력했지만 인터넷을 통해 사람들이 사실을 알고 영화에 대해 이런 저런 것을 물어왔다고 말했다.

그러나 다브로브스카는 18세가 되던 해 다시 영화를 보고 출연에 대해 자랑스럽게 느끼게 되었다고 말했다.

그녀는 “제가 무언가 자랑스러워할 수 있는 것에 동참했다는 것을 깨달았어요. 스필버그 말이 옳았어요. 저는 먼저 성장한 다음에 영화를 봐야 했죠.”라고 그녀는 말했다. (코리아헤럴드)

Role in ’Schindler‘s List’ scars actress for years

Oliwia Dabrowska, who played an iconic role in Steven Spielberg’s 1993 film “Schindler’s List,” said that she had been “horrified” when she first watched the movie.

“I was ashamed of being in the movie and really angry with my mother and father when they told anyone about my part,” Dabrowska told British media.

Dabrowska, now 24, made an iconic appearance in the highly regarded movie. She played a little girl in a red coat -- the only colored figure in otherwise black-and-white film.

The movie’s protagonist Oskar Schindler -- a wealthy Nazi businessman played by Liam Neeson -- spots her in the crowd, then later sees her body among the dead. The experience prods Schindler to saving as many Jewish workers as he can.

Dabrowska said she watched the film for the first time when she was 11, though she promised to wait until she was 18. She said the movie was “too horrible” and she was not sure she wanted to watch it ever again.

Dabrowska also said she had to endure the unwanted attention from friends and adults around her. She said she tried to keep it a secret, but people found out through the Internet anyway.

Dabrowska eventually saw the film again at 18, and managed to get over her animosity for the film.

“I realized I had been part of something I could be proud of. Spielberg was right: I had to grow up to watch the film,” she was quoted as saying. Dabrowska said she now feels honored to have played the role.
