Workers of Samsung affiliates who will be transferred to Hanwha Group in a sell-off deal said Monday they will stage rallies throughout the country later this week, demanding that the deal be scrapped.

"(The workers) are angered by the unilateral deal by Samsung Group that has excluded opinions of its workers," an official from Samsung Techwin chapter of the Korean Metal Workers' Union said.

Samsung Group announced in November it will sell four chemical and defense units to Hanwha Group as it continues its business reorganization, a move industry watchers closely linked to an eventual management transfer to the next generation of owner family. The deal is scheduled to be completed by the first half of next year.

The four affiliates include Samsung Techwin Co., Samsung General Chemicals Co., Samsung Thales Co. and Samsung Total Petrochemicals Co.

Workers from Samsung Techwin have scheduled rallies at Samsung Group headquarters in Seoul on Wednesday and Thursday, and those from other affiliates also plan to hold rallies across the country.

Workers from the four companies will also stage joint rallies at Samsung's headquarter, the official said. (Yonhap)
