Police in Vietnam use fishing nets to catch speeding bikers

Police in central Vietnam have started using fishing nets to stop speeding motorcycles, local media said Friday.

Authorities in Thanh Hoa City have caught 21 people since they started using the nets a month ago on people racing motorcycles, speeding or driving dangerously, the news website VietnamNet reported.

The technique is only used on people who do not stop when flaggeddown by police.

The net is thrown over the back wheel, forcing the vehicle tostop. So far, no one has been injured.

Informal motorcycle races on public roads, usually by schoolchildren or students, is widespread in Vietnam's larger cities, particularly after dark. (DPA)

베트남 경찰, 그물 던져 폭주 오토바이 단속

베트남 경찰이 어망을 이용해 폭주 오토바이 단속에 나섰다고 현지 언론이 25일 보도했다.

베트남 중부 탄호아시(市) 경찰은 한 달 전부터 도로에서 속도를 위반하고 경주를 벌이거나 위험하게 달리는 오토바이에 그물을 던지기 시작해 지금까지 21명을 적 발했다고 인터넷 신문 베트남넷은 전했다.

경찰은 오토바이 운전자가 경찰의 정지 신호를 무시하는 경우에만 그물을 사용 하고 있다.

경찰은 뒷바퀴에 그물을 던져 차량을 세우고 있으며 이 같은 단속으로 인한 부상자는 아직 없는 것으로 알려졌다.

베트남 대도시에서는 주로 야간에 학생 등이 일반도로에서 불법 오토바이 경주를 벌이는 사례가 늘고 있다.
