South Korean singer Cho Kwan-woo is recovering after being stabbed in the neck during a squabble with a drunken former employee, police said Monday.

The Ilsan Police Station said they have requested an arrest warrant for the 44-year-old suspect, identified only by his surname Jeon, on charges of attempted murder.

Cho was taken to a hospital and required around 10 stitches to his neck but his vocal cords were not affected, the police said, adding that the singer was discharged after the surgery.

The suspect stabbed Cho in the neck with a broken alcohol bottle after they argued in front of the singer's house in Goyang, just north of Seoul, early Sunday morning, according to the police.

"(I) do not recall (the incident) since (I) was heavily drunk,"

Jeon was quoted by the police as saying. "Cho offended me and (I)

accidentally committed a crime."

Jeon allegedly tried to control the bleeding from Cho's wound and called for an ambulance, the police said, adding that he was rounded up at the scene right away.

Jeon was the 46-year-old singer's road manager for three months from last September, the police said. The two reportedly have had drinks together occasionally even after Jeon quit his job.

Police said they will look into further details of the incident. (Yonhap News)

조관우 前로드매니저 휘두른 흉기에 중상

가수 조관우(47)씨가 말다툼 끝에 술 취한 전 로드매니저가 휘두른 흉기에 목 부위를 찔려 부상했다.

조씨는 애초 중상으로 알려진 것과 달리 목 부위가 찢어져 10여 바늘을 꿰맨 정 도인 것으로 확인됐다.

경기 일산경찰서는 술에 취해 말다툼하다가 조관우씨에게 흉기를 휘두른  혐의(살인미수)로 전 로드매니저 전모(45)씨에 대해 구속영장을 신청했다고 16일 밝혔다.

전씨는 지난 15일 오전 1시15분께 고양시 일산동구 식사동 조씨의 집 앞에서 술에 취해 말다툼하다가 깨진 소주병으로 조씨의 목을 찌른 혐의를 받고 있다.

조씨는 목 부위에 길이 7㎝ 정도 찢어지는 상처를 입어 병원에서 10여 바늘을 꿰맸다.

조씨를 치료한 동국대학교 일산병원의 한 관계자는 "조씨가 생명은 물론 성대에 도 문제가 없는 것으로 알고 있다"며 "수술이 끝난 뒤 퇴원해 자택 치료를 받고 있다고 들었다"고 말했다.

경찰은 조씨가 부상 때문에 행동이 다소 부자연스러웠지만 대화를 하는 데 지장 이 없었다고 전했다.

전씨는 범행 직후 조씨의 부상 부위를 지혈 조치하며 119에 신고, 함께 출동한 경찰에 의해 이날 오전 1시25분께 현장에서 검거됐다.

조사결과 조씨는 지난 14일 오후 7시께부터 술집에서 전씨와 함께 술을 마신 뒤 편의점에서 소주를 사 자신의 집으로 이동하다가 변을 당한 것으로 드러났다.

전씨는 조씨를 팬으로 만나다가 지난해 9월부터 3개월간 조씨의 로드매니저를 담당해 왔다. 이들은 이를 계기로 가끔 술을 마신 것으로 알려졌다.

전씨는 경찰에서 "많이 취해 있어 기억이 잘 안 난다. 조씨가 기분을 상하게 하 는 말을 해 우발적으로 범행을 저질렀다"고 진술했다.

경찰의 한 관계자는 "깨진 유리병으로 생명과 직결된 목을 찌른 점 등을 고려해 살인미수 혐의를 적용했다"고 말했다.

경찰은 전씨를 상대로 정확한 사건 경위를 조사하고 있다
