A British art expert says two of the figures in Leonardo da Vinci‘s masterpiece “The Last Supper” are actually self-portraits of the artist.

Ross King said this week that while not a lot is known about Da Vinci’s physical appearance at the time he painted “The Last Supper,” he is confident the noses on two of the apostles are a giveaway.

King has concluded the long hair, beards and Greek noses on the two matched up with a portrait of the Italian master drawn years later. Greek noses and prominent hair, King said, were “rarities for an Italian man of that period.”

Italy‘s ANSA news agency said art historians long suspected Da Vinci painted himself into the work, but King told The Independent that no one had really taken the time to seriously look for it. (UPI)

최후의만찬 사도들 中 '다 빈치'가?

르네상스 시대 예술가인 레오나드로 다 빈치의 걸작 ‘최후의 만찬’에 등장하는 여러 인물들 가운데 두 사람은 사실상 작가 자신의 모습을 묘사한 것이라는 주장이 나와 화제다.

영국의 미술전문가 로스 킹(Ross King)은 비록 최후의 만찬을 그릴 당시 다 빈치의 외모에 대해 정확하게 알려진 바는 많지 않지만 예수님의 열 두 제자 가운데 두 명의 코에서 결정적인 실마리를 발견할 수 있었다고 밝혔다.

킹은 이 두 제자의 긴 머리카락, 수염, 그리고 그리스인 특유의 코 모양이 수년 후에 그려진 다 빈치의 자화상과 일치한다고 결론지었다.

킹은 이와 같은 머리카락과 코의 특징은 당대 이탈리아 남성에게서는 찾아보기 힘든 외모적 특성이라고 말했다.

이탈리아 통신사 안사(ANSA)에 따르면, 미술사 전문가들은 오랫동안 레오나르도 다 빈치가 자신의 모습을 작품 속에 그려 넣었을 것이라고 추측해왔다.

그러나 킹은 인디펜던트와의 인터뷰에서 지금까지 이 보다 정확한 분석은 없었다고 단언했다. (코리아헤럴드)
