Dozens of overseas Koreans who work for broadcasting firms across the world gathered in their home country to discuss ways to cooperate further for global broadcasting, organizers said Tuesday.

Hosted by Yonhap News Agency and sponsored by the Korea Communications Commission, the Overseas Korean Broadcasters’ Convention, the second of its kind, kicked off in Incheon on the same day for a four-day run, according to Yonhap officials.

Officials of 24 broadcasting companies run by South Koreans in nine countries including the United States, Australia and China, will share opinions on how to effectively deal with the rapidly changing TV broadcasting infrastructure, they added.

“The meeting serves as a venue for boosting exchanges and networking for mutual cooperation. I hope Yonhap News Agency and news Y, together with fellow broadcasters, open a new broadcasting era for Koreans across the globe,” said Yonhap President Park Jung-chan. “news Y” is an all-news cable channel that Yonhap News Agency launched last year.

During the stay, they plan to listen to special lectures from lawmakers, tour Yonhap’s broadcasting facilities, and visit the new Saemangeum port located 280 km south of Seoul and a traditional hanok village in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province, officials said. (Yonhap News)
