A Korean celebrity couple expected to tie the knot next month has been saddened by the death of the bride-to-be’s father on Monday.

The father of singer Kim Go-eun, better known as Byul, passed away a month ahead of her wedding to 32-year-old comedian Ha Dong-hoon, known by his stage name Haha. Kim’s father had struggled with paralysis after an accident in 2002.

The couple reportedly completed registering their marriage before the ceremony, and are legally husband and wife.

In 2009, the singer appeared on a TV show and admitted that she had gone through tough times witnessing her father’s long battle while maintaining a bright public image as a celebrity at the same time.

Byul cleared her schedule to participate in a wake for her late father, and Haha is expected to be at his fiancées side during the funeral.

It is not confirmed whether the couple will postpone the marriage scheduled to be held on Nov. 30.

하하와 내달 결혼 앞둔 가수 별 부친상

가수 별(김고은)이 15일 부친상을 당했다고 소속사가 전했다.

소속사는 "별의 아버지가 이날 오전 10시40분께 지병으로 별세했다"면서  "빈소 는 신촌 세브란스 병원 장례식장 특1호실에 마련됐으며, 오후 4시부터 조문객을 맞을 예정"이라고 밝혔다.   

별의 아버지는 2002년 말 의료 사고로 신체를 전혀 움직일 수 없는 상태가 된 후 지금까지 10년째 투병 생활을 해 왔다.

소속사는 "별은 현재 모든 스케줄을 취소하고 아버지의 빈소를 지키고 있다"면 서 "예비 신랑인 가수 하하도 발인이 끝날 때까지 장인의 빈소를 지킬 예정"이라고 전했다.

별과 하하는 오는 11월 30일 서울 시내의 한 예식장에서 결혼식을 올릴 예정이다. 두 사람은 이미 혼인 신고를 마친 것으로 알려졌다.
