Jason Mraz, a singer-songwriter from the United States, will perform in Jamsil, Seoul on May 17, according to the Nine Entertainment.

The new concert came about a year after the singer performed in Busan and in Nami Island near Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, in June 2012.

Thanks to his poignant melodies, Mraz has become one of the most popular international singers among Korean fans. In 2008, Mraz released the album titled “We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things,” which has since sold about 140,000 copies in Korea, in large part thanks to the popularity of the song “I’m Yours.”

Mraz has also said Korea is his favorite country to play. On his previous visit to Korea, he expressed affection to Korean fans and shared some of his personal thoughts on music and life. “I believe sincere soul reaches beyond the borders. I try my best to express my sincerity when I write songs. The popularity I have in Korea is based on that, I suppose,” he said at the press conference last year.

Along with his musical career, Mraz has publicly showed interest in social issues such as human equality and environmental protection. He runs the Jason Mraz Foundation to help organizations working on those problems.

The concert will be held at the Assistance Stadium in Jamsil Sports Complex. Tickets will be available from Feb. 13 at online shopping mall Interpark.

제이슨 므라즈 5월 내한 공연


한국인이 가장 사랑하는 팝스타 중 하나인 미국 싱어송라이터 제이슨 므라즈(Jason Mraz•35)가 5월 한국을 찾는다.

공연기획사 나인엔터테인먼트는 므라즈가 오는 5월 17일 잠실 종합운동장 보조경기장에서 내한 공연을 한다고 7일 전했다.

2002년 1집 ‘웨이팅 포 마이 로켓 투 컴(Waiting for My Rocket to Come)’으로 데뷔한 므라즈는 팝•록•포크•재즈 등 장르를 넘나드는 음악, 감미로운 보컬로 전 세계 음악팬의 마음을 사로잡았다.

특히 3집 ‘위 싱. 위 댄스. 위 스틸 씽스(We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things)’ 수록곡인 ‘아임 유어스(I’m Yours)‘는 빌보드 싱글 차트에 무려 76주 동안 머물며 많은 사랑을 받았다. ’아임 유어스‘의 인기에 힘입어 3집은 국내에서만 무려 14만 장이나 팔렸다.

지난해 선보인 4집 ’러브 이즈 어 포 레터 워드(Love Is A Four Letter Word)‘ 역시 국내 예약 판매만으로 1만 5천 장이 팔려나가며 인기를 끌었다.

므라즈는 사회 문제에도 관심이 많다. 그가 2011년 설립한 재단(The Jason Mraz Foundation)은 인간 평등, 생태계 보호, 예술과 교육, 회복과 후원이라는 네 개의 키워드를 바탕으로 더 나은 세계를 만드는 데 일조한다.

한국 사랑도 남다르다. 2006년 펜타포트 록 페스티벌 출연 이후 다섯 차례(이번 공연 포함 여섯 차례)나 한국을 찾은 그는 공연 때 한국어로 생일 축하 노래를 하는 등 각별한 애정을 표현해 왔다.

태극기의 건곤감리, 잠실 주경기장 이미지 등을 넣은 이번 공연 포스터도 므라즈 측에서 직접 디자인했다고 한다.
