Late Korean singer and actor Park Yong-ha’s manager has been indicted for attempted bank fraud by fabricating a document to withdraw money from the actor’s account in Japan, a prosecutor said Tuesday.

According to the Seoul Central District Prosecutor's Office, the manager tried to withdraw Park’s assets, 240 million won ($220,000), saved at a Japanese bank just a week after the actor committed suicide in June 2010. Park’s body was found at his residence in Seoul, having apparently killed himself.

But the manager’s fraud ended in failure when a teller at the bank declined to retrieve the savings, as she knew of the actor’s death.

The manager is also under suspicion of stealing the deceased’s photos, a music album and cameras, worth more than 26 million won, from the management company where she and Park had worked together for many years.

The actor’s sister, Park Hye-yeon has been running the firm, Yona Entertainment, as chief executive officer.

The manager denied the accusations, claiming she did not attempt to steal the money.

“I didn’t try to steal the savings. I have the authority to use the money as a manager. For the photo albums and records, I just want to treasure them as keepsakes from him for old time’s sake.”

Park, who made his debut in 1997, was propelled to Hallyu stardom following his stint in the highly successful KBS drama “Winter Sonata” in 2002.

On the wings of his Korean Wave success, Park forged a career for himself in Japan, where over the course of five years he churned out 10 hit albums as well as hit singles and won four consecutive Japan Gold Disc Awards -- a first for a Korean pop artist.

매니저, 박용하 자살 직후 예금 인출

서울중앙지검은  2010 년 자살한 탤런트 고(故) 박용하씨 명의의 예금청구서를 위조해 예금을 인출하려 한 혐의(사문서위조ㆍ사기미수 등) 등으로 박씨 매니저 이모(32.여)씨를 불구속 기소했다고 19일 밝혔다.

검찰에 따르면 이씨는 박씨가 스스로 목숨을 끊은 지 일주일 후인 2010년 7월 일본의 한 은행에서 자신이 관리하고 있던 박씨의 도장을 이용해 한화 약  2억4천만 원을 찾으려 한 혐의를 받고 있다.

이씨는 박씨의 사망 소식을 알고 있던 은행 직원이 예금 지급을 거절하는  바람 에 돈을 찾지 못했다.

이씨는 또 2010년 7월14일 저녁 서울 강남에 있는 박씨의 소속사  요나엔터테인 먼트에서 회사 소유의 박씨 사진집 40권(시가 720만원 상당)을 비롯해 총  2천600여 만원 상당의 음반, 사진, 카메라 등을 가져 나온 혐의도 받고 있다.

이씨는 박씨 유족이 검찰에 진정서를 내면서 수사를 받았다.  요나엔터테인먼트 는 박씨 누나가 대표로 있는 회사다.

이씨는 그러나 검찰에서 '예금은 빼돌리려 한 게 아니라 매니저로서 쓸 수 있는 권한이 있고, 사진첩이나 앨범은 유품을 정리하면서 그간의 정을 생각해 소장하고 싶었다'라며 범행을 부인한 것으로 전해졌다.

한류스타로 일본에서 큰 인기를 끌었던 박씨는 2010년 6월30일 자택에서 스스로 목숨을 끊어 팬들에게 큰 충격을 줬다.
