Gwangju International Center is putting on a guided tour of Damyang, South Jeolla Province, on Saturday.

Damyang, in the far south of the country, is famous for its bamboo forests.

The tour will take in the May 18 Memorial Cemetery and Museum, which is dedicated to the victims of the massacre of pro-democracy protesters carried out by the military dictatorship in 1980.

Moving on to Damyang, the group will have a lunch of Damyang’s signature noodles and take in a bamboo forest. The group will also stop for coffee at Art Center Daedam and take a look round a bamboo craft shop.

The tour departs from the international center at 9:30 a.m. and returns at 5:30 p.m. The tour costs 25,000 won, or 20,000 won for GIC members, inclusive of lunch, transport and other expenses.

Participants must book by Wednesday. For more information go to gic.go.kr.
