United Exhibition, a group of 80 art students from Seoul National University, Kookmin University, Hongik University and Ewha Womans University, are holding an exhibition titled “How Dare You” in Seoul City Hall’s Citizen Gallery from Aug. 20 to 29.

Sponsored by Seoul City, the exhibition includes a wide range of creative work. “Cut Me” by Hongik University student Kim Ji-yeon features strings sewn onto a canvas with scissors hung beside it. Visitors are encouraged to take the scissors and cut some of the strings, thus participating in the creation of the piece.

Kookmin University student Lee Mi-mi’s “Parrotbill (Conversation)” shows an exaggerated print of two birds paired with a large figure dressed in black feathers with a black mask made of plaster clay.

United Exhibition, established in 2012, is entirely student-run.

Seoul National University student Shin Hye-won, in charge of general affairs for the group, said, “The concept for ‘How Dare You’ is that we wanted to directly challenge the people who didn’t believe that we students were capable of organizing such exhibitions. We wanted to express ourselves freely.”

The exhibition will also feature special lectures by artists and “Art Market,” where students will sell their work.

The exhibition, open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., is located in the basement floor of Seoul City Hall.
